Summertime vacations can mean problems for your eyes. This summer practice summer eye safety and pack proper eye protection. Keep these three items on hand at all times to keep your eyes safe this summer.
1. Sunglasses with 100% UVA/UVB Protection
UV Rays can be incredibly hurtful for your eyes. Over-exposure can cause long term problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts. They can also cause your eyes to become sunburnt, a condition known as keratitis which can cause temporary vision loss. Furthermore, many medications have photo-phobia as a side effect, making you more susceptible to the consequences of light. 100% UVA/UVB Protection sunglasses block this harmful ray from reaching your eyes and protect you from all of the conditions described above.
2. Artificial Tears Eye Drops
Dryness is another bane for eyes everywhere. Whether it be because of the locale (desert, mountains, etc.) or the circulation systems (often in hotel rooms or airplanes), low humidity and little moisture can dry out your eyes even if you don’t regularly suffer from dry eye. Eye drops will put the moisture back into your eyes and help to lubricate them.
3. Contact Lens Supplies
Proper contact lens supplies are essential, especially if taking a trip. Make sure you have enough of everything to last your entire trip and maybe even consider packing more supplies than you think you need, just in case. Remember always to use sterile water to clean your contacts and never use tap, bottled, or ocean water.
You should also remove your lenses before getting in the pool, hot tub, or ocean to help you avoid severe eye infections.
Summer vacations are meant to be fun and shouldn’t have to be bogged down by eye problems. Keep an eye out for these tips and see all the fun you’ll have this summer. Remember to call Avery Hall Insurance Group to help insure your summer!
