How many different types of Medicare Supplements are there?

Currently, ten different Medicare Supplement insurance plans are available in most states through private health care insurers. Those plans are labeled A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. The following are descriptions of the most popular plans available.

Medicare Supplement Plan A:

Only covers Basic Benefits, which is your Part A hospital deductible, blood (1st three pints), Part B coinsurance (20% of Medicare-approved charge), and Part A hospice care copayments. You pay a is $1,484 of your inpatient hospital deductible, skilled nursing of $185.50/day, the Part B deductible, and all excess charges.

To qualify for Plan A, you must be under 65 and on disability.

Medicare Supplement Plan C:

Covers all Basic Benefits. Along with skilled nursing facility coinsurance, your Part A and B deductible, and foreign travel emergency. What you would have to pay out of pocket for is any Part B excess charges.

To qualify for Plan C, you must be under 65 and on disability. One caveat is that you must be eligible for this plan before 2020.

Medicare Supplement Plan F:

Covers all Basic Benefits. Along with skilled nursing facility coinsurance, your Part A and B deductible, 100% of all Part B excess charges, and foreign travel emergency. You would not have a single out-of-pocket cost!

To qualify, you must have enrolled in Medicare before 2020.

Medicare Supplement Plan G:

Covers all Basic Benefits. Along with skilled nursing facility coinsurance, your Part A deductible, and foreign travel emergency. The only out-of-pocket cost would be for your Part B deductible.

Medicare Supplement Plan N:

Covers Basic Benefits except for up to $20 copayment for office visits and up to $50 copayment for ER. Along with skilled nursing facility coinsurance, Part A deductible, and foreign travel emergency.
